Biography

Marilyn Stivers graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.A. in Fine Arts. She has worked extensively both inside and outside the artistic establishment. Inside the artistic establishment doing wall sized ceramic murals and large paintings for commercial and residential use. Outside the artistic establishment creating domestic installations and sewing and designing clothing.

From 1995 to the present she has pursued a project on female sensuality and sexuality in the areas of sculpture and photograpy. She creates fully sculpted clothed figures intended to be embodiments of what a certain kind of woman dreams she is and then photographs these models (see Photo: Girl Series).

Her oil paintings explore a different but related woman's world: the upscale suburban home, and are part of a series entitles Dreamlife.
